Greetings and Salivations!
This is the inaugural edition of the DecaturConservative blog. On this night marking the 140th anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, I chose to start a weblog of events, comments, and other statements pertaining to life in Decatur, Illinois and the surrounding community (even Hervey City!) The views expressed here are not necessarily those of Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, or John Freakin' Kerry.
Whew! I finally read through the list of the "winners" in the Decatur City Council race. Well, all I can say is, I think I know who the losers are. Us. Oh well. There's always the next election, where hopefully we'll have some candidates to choose from. (No one really stood out as a "good candidate," did they?) It's kind of like choosing how you want to die, "Oh let's see, we have lethal injection, firing squad, electric chair, Schiavo'd, heart attack, hmmm, which one do I choose?) The one thing that the DCC meetings will be, is ENTERTAINING! I'm sure that once Shad get's up on his soapbox (after several hours of rehearsal, mind you) and in front of the TV cameras this will be one heck of a show! I just hope that someone there remembers those meetings are supposed to be productive. Right.
Speaking of productive, how come gas prices haven't come down yet? Didnt' Sheik What's-His-Face announce increased production by OPEC like two or three weeks ago? And we've seen every single station in town with the same stupid price going UP instead of down? (I swear they must talk to each other.) Not to sound too much like an environmentalist (although I think we should be a little more conservative with our resources) I hope big business gets the hint we need R&D into cheaper fuel alternatives than gasoline. Drilling in Alaska for now is a good idea, but eventually the Saudi's are going to bend us over a little too far...
Speaking of bending over... If anyone has been paying attention, Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones bent the State of Illinois over recently by sending a promising bill on medical malpractice reform back to "executive committee" where it will summarily die. Thanks a lot jerk. I would encourage all to go to www.realitymedicine.org and read up on the crisis here in Illinois. Decatur has already lost two OB/GYNs (docs that deliver babies), and one neurologist due to the crisis. Several more are planning on retiring early depending on what happens with their rates. If Decatur gets hit with any other problems causing docs to leave, we will truly be in a bad place. Kinda like all of Illinois south of Springfield, where if you have a serious head injury, you'd better pray the helicopter can get you to Springfield, St. Louis, or Evansville in time...there are "deadzones" in the center of the southern part of the state for certain types of head injuries.
I didn't know I could rant that long.
Thought, choice, action and politics... all need to be driven by wisdom. It's WHERE one seeks one's wisdom that makes all the difference.
Until next time...

This is a test of the emergency follow up post system. This is only a test. If this were an actual post you would have been instructed where to read and would have been given official news and information. This is only a test.
