Durbin: Partisan Politics at It's Best
It seems the democratic leadership in the US Senate is bound and determined to undermind the Bush Whitehouse to the point it will shut down the Senate in order to do so. After losing the House, the Senate, the Presidency (twice), and soon the Supreme Court as well, democrats are eager to get something to go their way, something to "look bad" for the Republican leadership. Now, they have it, or so they think. See story
Durbin, along with other dumocrats, invoked a rarely used rule in the US Senate and have, in effect, shut down the work of the Senate. Durbin was quoted as saying, "We're serving notice on them at this moment. Be prepared for this motion every day until you face the reality." Evidently, democrats are convinced that President Bush lied to get us into a war, and they are bound and determined to get the Bush administration to admit to something, or they're going to continue to shut down the Senate.
Interestingly enough, aren't the confirmation hearings coming up for Alito in a week or two?
Filibusters take many forms, don't they? Hopefully after the next election, we'll have less of these leftist kooks to deal with. I am prepared to personally hand out flyers and put a campaign sign in my yard for Durbin's opponent, regardless of who this person is.

Yeah, that's like, the whole thing here is the cameras. Yeah, whatever
Hey! Love your blog. Did you hear that Scooter Libby was indicted last Friday?
Dear Linc,
With all due respect, to most of us, focusing on what intelligence failures (or manipulation?) led us into going into Iraq isn't exactly "shutting down the Senate", nor is it a filibuster. It is finally giving appropriate focus to one of the most important issues in front of us.
I'd like to hear the defense from the Republican/conservative side about why this report has taken so long and whether you feel there is an effort to bury it for the Administration's benefit.
Norman Thomas,
Let's back up. Let's look into the intel from further back, at least to 1993. The 9/11 commission covered part of that, but what about the info that convinced WJC and 90% of the Senate that Saddam was a threat? How about more info on the intel that convinced WJC that that Bin Laden wasn't important enough to deal with effectively?
The report hasn't been buried at all, and it was scheduled to report next week. Reid and Durbin are doing this strictly as a partisan stunt.
You are correct sir.
"Phase II" was already scheduled to be discussed next week. There was no burial of the report. There was no delaying talking about it.
As VP has stated, this was simply a political stunt to make it appear as if the only reason the report was going to be discussed at all was this 'valiant effort by the democrats' to bring it to the forefront.
To Reid and Durbin: what a load. I agree with LR; Durbin will have an uphill battle in this state after this fiasco by the democrats.
Cowboys? Yeah, they will probably do much better than Da Bears.
Oh, and Durbin is a fecus.
For all you libs out there who SWEAR that George W. Bush lied to get us into the war, here is a list of other liars from the Democratic Party who also agreed with President Bush, some up to five years before the war:
Check this out.
Couple of Durbin's good buddies,
Amy Stokwell and Bob Sampson, crafted the upcoming county budget that within minutes of barely passing already has problems.
When will the real Macon County Republicans stand up to what is going on. Where is Cathy Ashby when the public needs her to protect us from these free spending Durbin types?
