I just read the article from Reuters outlining the Russians passing intelligence on to Saddam days before the coalition forces invaded in 2003.
The article goes on to say that oil from Saddam was the reason why.
Evidently the document goes on to say that Saddam originally didn't believe there would be an invasion, being "convinced the United States would not launch a ground invasion that would seriously threaten his rule, believing the Americans too squeamish about casualties, and that an internal coup was a bigger threat."
Saddam was half-right. The coup never happened.
What gets me is the left thinks W is in this war for the oil! Uh...No. France, Germany and Russia were trying to stop it for oil.
Sheesh.
I wonder if Russia was one of the "allies we should bring to our side" that John Kerry kept speaking of.
They all had a knife in our back, John.

The point is that Russia, the ally that John Filibuster Kerry wanted to "bring to his side" was sticking a knife in America's back.
And yes, a lot of people who are anti-war don't have the backbone to stand up for what is right and do what is right. They are more interested in their own pathetic lives and do not care about the lives of others.
Personally, I DO care what the world community does/has done with Iraq. If we as a world community are to try to keep idiots like Saddam Hussein from nuking neighbors, Israel, etc., then the world community will have to try to work together. When we have self-serving wimps like Russia, Germany and France kissing up to Saddam for cheap oil then the stability of the Middle East is at stake. For those who isolate themselves in central Illinois, this means that islamist fascists might have a larger base to work from (see Saddam-Osama connection) and start terrorizing people abroad, aka, 9/11.
For those who invest their soul blindly in the DNC, the Kerry remark was to remind you that Kerry's logic of how to take care of the Saddam situation was UTTERLY PATHETIC, and that the biggest majority of the American people were RIGHT in re-electing George W. Bush.
Yes, there have been a few bumps in the road in dealing with the Iraq situation. Many variables are at play here, some of which are outside of anyone's control. I hate war. I don't like it at all. I hate terrorism more, so I'm pulling for the USA and the coalition to win this war on terrorism. I am NOT sitting around supporting a political movement who's sole purpose is to undermine a president; I'm not running down our military and calling them Nazi's; nor am I giving aid and comfort to the enemy by calling our own military terrorists.
Instead of focusing on defeat, retreat, whining, and finger pointing, I'm concentrating on victory, support for our military, and the continued success of the United States of America.
I think that sums up why I posted my original posting.
And, oh yeah, thanks for pointing out my HTML goof. It's fixed.
It must be hard to defend the conduct of the U.N. over the last few decades.
L.R. is right about oil being one of the major reasons that some of our WWII allies supported Hussein.
History will show that the action taken by the U.S. and the rest of the coalition forces was just, and began the transformation of the region towards democracy, and away from tyrants.
History will also show that some of the Libs chose unbridled hatred of their country's leader over doing the right thing.
Now look: about the John Kerry comment--how in the heck did this end up being the Democrats' fault?
Let me put it like this:
Who claimed that they knew Validimir Putin because "I looked into his eyes and saw his soul"?
a. George McGovern
b. John Kerry
c. Howard Dean
d. George W. Bush
That's right, fans, it's D! What do we have for our winners??
I agree with you LR. Support for the war on terror takes a back seat to partisan politics with this crowd.
It seems it's more important to them for our president and military to be portrayed as failures than it is to support fellow Americans in a noble fight against terrorism.
Oh wait, I forgot.
The elections are coming up in November.
