What Is Up With Ambien?

I have been watching different news programs over the past few days, and I am appalled at the lack of (pardon me VP) "logic" in what these reports have to say about the prescription drug Ambien.

Do a little googling, and you'll find that Ambien is a SLEEPING PILL. It causes you to BE SLEEPY. My wife has been prescribed this drug, and it works very well. (For her, it's kind of funny, because for about an hour before she falls asleep, she sometimes acts like she's drunk.) Not so unusual either for Sominix or Unisom or any other over-the-counter sleep aid.

Yet...

FoxNews among others are reporting the "dangers of Ambien"...

As far as I can see, it is misuse of this drug, especially in combination with alcohol, that has caused the overwhelming number of car accidents and fatalities.

I find this "blaming Ambien" for the problems in the same league as "Do not use blow-dryer in the shower" and Drinking-And-Driving. If the person using the item does not use it appropriately, then bad things can happen.

Blow-dryers aren't evil. It's the combination of the blow-dryer, electricity, water, and human stupidity that is evil.

The problem with all of this is, that the unsuspecting public will want a scapegoat, and now another pharmaceutical company will take the heat for human stupidity.

Sorry to go off on a rant, but I'm tired of people in this world NOT taking personal responsibility. I'm sure the trial lawyers are salivating over this one...

You forget my friend, we live in the country where people sue McDonald's because they eat too much junk, develop heart disease, and have to have joints replaced because they're too fat. It's not their fault, it's McDonald's fault.

Others I have always laughed at:

* the burglar who sues the homeowner because the burglar hurts himself while attempting to rob the homeowner

* the parent who sues his neighbor because his kid breaks his arm on his neighbor's basketball court that the kid had to climb the fence to get to in the first place

* Saddam Hussein complaining about the quality of his food or the conditions of his jail cell, after he killed thousands with chemical weapons and executed his prisoners (how many was that, 120 Shiites?)

Doing what's right doesn't matter anymore to most people, it's what will help them "get ahead."
